Mr Hodges is currently an Adjunct Professor at the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School, also a director of Piedmont Pharmaceutical Company, Greensboro, NC; Open Finance Network, Charlotte, NC; Homeowners Insurance Corporation of America, Dallas, TX; and Advanced Safety Concepts, Inc., Santa Fe, NM, He is President of Phoenix Associates, Inc., a small venture capital organization; one of the owners/managers of the Hotel Santa Fe and Santa Fe Hospitality Company; President of the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Foundation, Inc.; a member of the UNC-Greensboro Excellence Foundation; a member of the Board of Visitors of the Kenan-Flagler Business School and a member of the Graduate Education Advancement Board.
Previously Mr. Hodges was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The National Bank of and Washington Bancorporation (1980-1990, Under Secretary, Deputy Secretary, and Acting Secretary of the United States Department of Commerce (1979-1980); candidate for the United States Senate from North Carolina (1978), Chairman of the Board, North Carolina National Bank, and Director, NCNB Corporation (now Bank America Corporation (1974-1977); Democratic candidate for the United States Senate (1977-1978); a director of numerous corporate, philanthropic, and civic Organizations; a member of the Board of Governors of the University of North Carolina (1971-1979), along with similar service to The College of Santa Fe, The American University, and Johnson C. Smith University, a member of the faculty of the business schools at UNC-Chapel Hill (1961-1962), Duke University (1978-1979), and the University of New Mexico (1993-1995), the author/co-author of several books on business education.
Mr. Hodges was educated at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill (AB 1957) and the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration (MBA-1961). He served to the rank of Lieutenant, United States Naval Reserve (1957-1965) Mr. Hodges resides with his wife, Cheray Zauderer Hodges, in Chapel Hill and in Watauga County, NC.
