Dr. Nye is a retired pathologist. He received an AB degree from Hamilton College in 1952. His training at the School of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Rochester, included a year as a student research assistant in physiology. Five years of pathology training were completed at the School of Medicine, The University of North Carolina. Following six months of preparation at the Geographic Pathology Section of Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, the Air Force assigned Dr. Nye to the SEATO Medical Research Laboratory in Bangkok, Thailand. Dr. Nye returned to the Pathology Department faculty at UNC in 1966. From 1971 – 1974, Dr. Nye established the pathology program of the new medical school at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC and simultaneously opened a private practice of pathology at Lenoir Memorial Hospital in Kinston, NC which he continued to direct until 1995. He then served as the hospital’s VP for Medical Affairs until 2000.
