Gloria Wilkins, Vice President for Community Relations
Mrs. Wilkins resides in Pittsboro with her husband, Dr. Robert Wilkins, a retired Duke University Medical Center neurosurgeon. Mrs. Wilkins retired recently from Duke University Medical Center after a 17-year position in the Department of Surgery. Dr. and Mrs. Wilkins are depositors at the Community.
Mrs. Wilkins received an AB Degree from the University of Pittsburgh in speech education and communication. Her professional activities have included:
- Host, weekly television show, "Face the People," WQED Pittsburgh.
- Teacher, high school English and Speech, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
- Secretary to the Chancellor, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
- Secretary to the Director of Research, Chemstrand Corporation (now Monsanto), the first research and development facility in then Research Triangle Park.
- Founding Managing Editor, journal, Neurosurgery.
- Managing Editor, textbook, Neurosurgery., Editions I and II and Updates I and II.
- Co-editor, Neurosurgical Classics II.
Mrs. Wilkins has participated in the following volunteer activities:
- Elected to the School Board, Temple, Texas. Introduced and implemented advanced placement courses and elementary magnet schools.
- President, Durham/ Orange County Medical Auxiliary.
- Regional Vice President, North Carolina Medical Auxiliary.
- Development Committee, The Center for Child and Family Health, North Carolina.
- Docent, North Carolina Museum of Art.
